MEET TARA ABDULLAH
Portfolio of Artwork
Hi, my name is Tara Abdullah, and I am an artist from Sulaimaniah, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. My art focuses on raising awareness and promoting resistance against violence toward women and environmental conservation. Recently, I was honored with the Special Prize at the prestigious Future Generation Art Prize, hosted by the Pinchuk Art Centre, for my installation In-Between.

InBetween along with my other projects, such as The Feminine Project and The Sound/Voice Project, aim to shed light on the harsh realities faced by women in my region and around the world, encouraging resilience and non-violent resistance.
As an independent artist and freelancer, I work across a range of mediums, including paintings, installations, performances, sculptures, videos, and designs, to deliver impactful messages.
My art is deeply personal, reflecting my thoughts and experiences through an abstract and expressionist style. Inspired by artists like the Corbe Group, C. Tombley, and Children’s World, I often incorporate recycled materials and bold, heavy colors into my work, exploring themes of childhood, family, and suppressed identity. My Kurdish heritage is woven into my pieces through the use of Kurdish motifs and ornaments, emphasizing my cultural roots.
Despite facing backlash for my work, I remain steadfast in my commitment to raising awareness and inspiring change. My art speaks to my own journey and experiences, echoing my desire to be seen and heard in a world often indifferent to the struggles of marginalized voices.
